2017 WORDS UNLOCKED FINALIST: In Order to heal…

Poem: In Order to heal…

Facility: Phoenix House Academy, California
Teacher: Florence Avognon
Poet: Marvin

POEM TITLE: In Order to heal…

You won’t be anything in life!

So I was told every time…

Easy to believe when you’re surrounded by strife…

I used drugs but I put my heart in this rhyme…

Pain and anger hitting you like a knife…

I was in a game where everybody dies…

Time to take over the legacy of my life

Time for me to be real.

Ready to move on…ready to heal.

What will you leave?

What will you achieve?

Listen and believe

It’s the past and I no longer grieve

One day I want a nice family and wife…

I had to confront the poison in life.

I want to show my family the man I’ve become…

Be a father that would never run…

So I tell everyone no more excuses…

Because nobody is useless…

So when I’m gone…

You could be the next one…

I had no voice- then I made a choice.

I had to be real….In order to heal.

Time to take over the legacy of my life

Time to acknowledge the causes for strife.

Want to find authenticity? Gain knowledge.

I’ve discover my propensity. I’m headed for college.

What will I leave?

What will I achieve?

Listen and believe.

It’s the past and I no longer grieve.
