2018 WORDS UNLOCKED FINALIST: Agony

Poem: Agony

As a child there wasn’t rainbows or sunny days

Long cold nights full of tragedy and crazy pain.

Like a hurricane

The alcohol addiction dragged my mom away.

As a teen I pushed crack cocaine

Just to keep the pain at bay.

And as my life slips away.

I pray to God and think.

Was any of this worth it?

I know I ain’t perfect

But I don’t deserve this.

My life had a purpose

I chose to desert it.

Like a flood from the ocean

The blood keeps on rushing

From chest and the stomach

The stuff keeps on coming.

Still talking my rubbish

When they started bustin’.

BANG BANG!

Time slows, vision goes.

Heaven I want, but to hell I will go.

And just like a river,

My life force will flow.

My memories come

And then they go.

To all of you out there

I want you to know.

The thug life you want is the one that I chose.

The road that you seek

Is a path that is closed.

And as I lie in the gutter

I hope that you know

Death is the only thing

That the street life holds.
