We believe it is critical for students in secure facilities to explore the power of reading at every opportunity; to read for pleasure, not just for a grade; and to develop the habit of reading. So, in February 2015 we sponsored a month-long readathon and book review project called Unbound. Scholastic, the global children’s publishing, education and media company, agreed to donate a bundle of books through the Scholastic Possible Fund to each of the participating sites. That first year, forty-four schools in secure care facilities around the country participated. In February 2016 and 2017, again with the support of Scholastic, we sponsored Unbound for a second and third time, with over 70 sites participating each time.  For additional information about Unbound, to read student book reviews and read comments from teachers who have participated over the years, click here.
